Welcome to the homepage of Lauri Mehtätalo

I am a forest modeler and biometrician, who is especially interested in problems related to modeling the structure of one forest stand. Such models are needed, for example and especially in forest management planning where forest stand is the primary management unit. I am especially interested in solutions that produce significant improvements by going beyond the basic statistical applications.

I teach courses related to forest planning both in theory and in practice. In addition, I give courses on forest biometrics at both basic (Masters) and advanced (Doctoral) levels.

Since year 2002 I have used the open-source software R for almost all my research. I also use it in teaching of both theoretical and practical statisics.
